Environmental Impact on Refrigeration
Environmental issues such as ozone-depletion, etc. have influence how the EPA regulates refrigerant in our industry. With the costs of energy consumption spiking and one of the most common refrigerant R-22 which is used in air-conditioning and older refrigeration equipment being phased out as of January 1, 2020, it is inevitable that consumers and business owners are looking at other sustainable and energy solutions such as:
- Green alternatives refrigeration equipment that are environmentally friendly
- Equipment with newer systems that run on different refrigerant
- Retrofit of existing systems so that it can function using approved replacement refrigerant

Energy Smart Equipment
Presently, many refrigeration systems are driven by shaded pole or permanent split capacitor motors that operate at a 17% inefficiency energy level and produce 9 watts of output power for 53 watts of input power. This inefficiency produces unnecessary wasted heat which must be removed by the compressor to maintain the established temperature set points can result in energy costs spiking. This increase has caused consumers and business owners to embrace more sustainable and smart energy consumption products to address their refrigeration and/or HVAC needs.
